Photograph by Kevin Cooley from his book The Wizard of Awe, which was published in March by the Eriskay Connection. Cooley created these images of and in collaboration with the pyrotechnist Kenneth Ray Miller, who, as a result of the publication of some of the images in Popular Science, was indicted in 2020 on federal charges of illegally manufacturing, dealing, transporting, and possessing explosives. Miller served nearly two years in prison. Cooley’s work from this series is on view this month at Park Life, in San Francisco. © The artist

Elusive Realities, 1989–2000, a mixed-media artwork (vegetable color, dry pigment, watercolor, tea, and collage on wasli paper) by Shahzia Sikander, whose book, Collective Behavior, was published by Monacelli Press. This catalog was published to accompany the artist’s mid-career retrospective, which premiered at the 60th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale and was on view last month concurrently at the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Cleveland Museum of Art.
